I personally feel that they are the most simplistic, but they're also the most iconic, so feel free to disagree with me. Halo 2 takes second (I love the midi files but I've never spent much time there), Wars takes third (I love Insignificantia), and CE and 3 are tied for last. Reach has the most emotion (since it's such a freaking sad game), Halo 2/2 Anniversary have the most heard tracks in the franchise, and Halo Legends by far has the best orchestrations. While not as unique or memorable as O'Donell's works, they're arguably more cinematic, and I consider Arrival to be, perhaps, among the most powerful in the entire series. ODST is the most unique, Halo 4 has the most production value. I remember listening to the primal chants from the title screen at the midnight launch of Halo 4, and being blown away by their beauty. The quiet jazz and piano add layers to the atmosphere, and are amazing in their own right.Ĥ is a bit of a personal one, but I feel that Neil Davidge composed an incredibly unique, intriguing OST. ODST was beautiful and unique, but in a different way. Nostalgia aside, the percussion and brass really went above and beyond in Reach, and a lot of its pieces, specifically New Alexandria, are heartbreakingly beautiful and crisp. I often attribute some of its impressive pieces to moments years ago, when I was fooling around with my friends in Campaign or Forge. Reach was my first Halo (and my first Xbox game), and the game holds a special nostalgic place in my heart. A lot of the remixes are great, my absolute favorite is Green and Blue (Koan Sound Remix), I just think it's beautiful without going full EDM like some of the other remixes do (don't get me wrong though, Alvin Risk's remix of Nemesis is a staple in my library). It's just a damn good song.Ĥ's soundtrack also had something unique in that they actually did remixes, which I wish they would have done with 5. Never Forget was originally in 3, appeared in Reach's soundtrack as "We Remember" with a bit of guitar and with Reach's music style and was used alongside Bungie's final thank you card at the end of the game (Reach was Bungie's last Halo game), and then reappeared in 4's credits at the end where 343i (the new Halo devs) basically say thank you for letting them continue the legacy. Hands down, my favorite song on 4's soundtrack is the remake of Never Forget.
4's soundtrack is done by a different guy though, so the music is different, the 'old' Halo theme kind of pokes through in 117. 1 has some good songs, but the instruments always sound artificial to me so it's never really been my favorite, although I do listen to it.Ĥ has a pretty great soundtrack, I'd recommend Awakening, 117, Lasky's Theme, To Galaxy, and Arrival.
